International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics 2015

http://www.iciam2015.cnThe International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM) is held every four years and from August 10 to 14, 2015, mathematicians from around the world gathered in Beijing, China for the 8th ICIAM held at the China National Convention Center inside the Beijing Olympic Green. We have been presenting works on Multirate Time-Domain Simulation of Field/Circuit Coupled PWM Controlled Devices (together with Ruth Vazquez Sabariego and Johan Gyselinck) and Modelling of TESLA Cavities’ Eccentricity with Isogeometric Analysis (Jacopo Corno with Carlo de Falco). The poster presentation of the latter work has been recorded by ICIAM TV; there is also an interview of Prof. Annalisa Buffa talking about IGA.

Best Student Paper grants

Christian Richter and Timo Hülsmann have successfully applied for the Best Student Paper grant of Compumag 2013, Budapest. Christians contribution will be on “Using AMG to Accelerate Finite Differences by GPUs in Electromagnetic/Thermal Field Simulations” (joint work with Markus Clemens). This research support was also supported by Nvidia with a K20. Timo will present a poster on “Influence of Measurement Errors on Transformer Inrush Currents Using Different Material Models“.

EMF 2013: Field-Circuit Coupling and Winding Functions

EMF2013Next week I will attend the 9th International Symposium on Electric and Magnetic Fields, EMF 2013. It will be held in Bruges, Belgium, from 23 to 25 April 2013. According to the organizers “the purpose of the Symposium is to throw a bridge between recent research advances in mathematical and numerical modelling of electromagnetic fields and the growing number of industrial problems requiring such techniques”. I will talk on tuesday April 23, 2013 in the session 3 on numerical techniques (16.00 – 18.00 hrs) on “Field-Circuit Coupling Approaches in Terms of Winding Functions“.

GAMM 2013

Next week the 84th Annual Meeting of the International Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (Gesellschaft für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, GAMM) will take place in Novi Sad, Serbia. I will a giva a talk in the Young Researchers’ Minisymposium “Scale-bridging modeling and simulation – methodological and computational aspects” organized by Felix Fritzen.

Please note that for the first time at a GAMM conference, we have organized a poster exhibition on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 from 15:00 — 16:30 at the University of Novi Sad.

programm_deskriptorAb Montag findet der von mir mitorganisierte Deskriptor-Workshop 2013 in Schloss Eringerfeld statt.
Er richtet sich an Mathematiker/-innen und Ingenieure/-innen, insbesondere aus der Mechanik und Elektrotechnik, die mit gekoppelten Differentialgleichungen arbeiten, z.B. Systemen, die durch multiphysikalische Modellierung entstehen. Schwerpunkte sollen vor allem die numerischen Besonderheiten bei der Simulation von differential-algebraischen Formulierungen sein. Der Workshop steht damit in der Tradition der Workshops über Deskriptorsysteme, die von 1992 bis 2005 sieben Mal von Prof. P. C. Müller (Bergische Universität Wuppertal) organisiert wurden.

Conference on EM Field Computation

The 15th International Conference on Electromagnetic Field Computation takes place next week (from 11 – 14 November 2012) in Oita, Japan. The target audiences are international scientific and engineering communities interested in recent developments in magnetism and related technologies. Sadly, I am not able to join the conference but I will contribute with the several papers. Continue reading

BMBF Verbund SOFA Jahrestreffen 2012

Am Freitag 5. Oktober 2012, ab 8:00 Uhr, findet das Jahrestreffen des BMBF Verbundprojekts “Gekoppelte Simulation und Optimierung für robustes virtuelles Fahrzeugdesign” statt. Ich habe zu den Arbeitspaketen AP1: Feldsimulation (Prof. Clemens) und AP2: Kopplung (Prof. Günther) beigetragen. Das Treffen findet statt an der Bergischen Universität Wuppertal, Bendahler Straße 29, Raum 4.06, 42285 Wuppertal.

Challenge Workshop MSO-Tools 2012

On September 25th, I will give an invited talk on "Coupled Problems in Computational Electromagnetics" at the Challenge Workshop MSO-Tools 2012 in Berlin.
The talk discusses recent advances in the computation of electromagnetic fields, i.e., computational electromagnetics, coupled with additional multiphysical phenomena, i.e., computational multiphysics. In particular, the focus is put on new hardware-oriented models and methods related to contemporary Graphic Processing Units (GPUs) and other future many-core architectures, that may change coupling paradigms (‘Optimize data movement, not Flops’). SCEE 2012 Conference in Zürich

From September 11-14, 2012 the SCEE2012 Conference for Scientific Computing in Electrical Engineering will be hosted by ETH Zurich and ABB Corporate Research in Switzerland. On thursday (“Industry Day at ABB”) I will give a talk on Uncertainty Quantification of Inrush Currents in Electric Machines with Respect to Measured Material Data.

Workshop-Ankündigung Deskriptor 2013

Der Workshop richtet sich an Mathematiker/-innen und Ingenieure/-innen, insbesondere aus der Mechanik und Elektrotechnik, die mit gekoppelten Differentialgleichungen arbeiten, z.B. Systemen, die durch multiphysikalische Modellierung entstehen. Schwerpunkte sollen vor allem die numerischen Besonderheiten bei der Simulation von differential-algebraischen Formulierungen sein. Der Workshop steht damit in der Tradition der Workshops über Deskriptorsysteme, die von 1992 bis 2005 sieben Mal von Prof. P. C. Müller (Bergische Universität Wuppertal) organisiert wurden. Im Rahmen der Veranstaltung sollen junge Forscher/-innen (Studenten/-innen, Doktorand/-innen und Post-Docs) die Gelegenheit zur Präsentation erhalten, daher werden ihre Konferenzgebühren aus Mitteln der Klaus Körper Stiftung (GAMM) gefördert.
